1. Donate Blood: Perrysburg Christians United Blood Drive
While donating blood, we met a wonderful and grateful man- Dick Schultz. He greeted each donor and thanked them
for their donation. Dick is a leukemia survivor and donations like this has helped save his life! We were so happy
to meet Dick!
2. Police Officer: Derek Sanderson, Maumee Police Department
We met with Derek Sanderson, a patrolman and forensic photographer for the Maumee Police Department, and had a tour of
the new facility just built in 2006! We enjoyed the behind the scenes tour of the training facilities, dispatch unit and on-site
jail. Derek has been with the Maumee Police Department for 16 years and is one of four officers who photographs all
accident and crime scenes! Thanks Derek for being a true hero and peace officer every day!
3. Wood County Humane Society & Toledo Area Humane Society
Humane Societies are "no kill" shelters and we have 2 amazing facilities in Northwest Ohio, we visited with cats and
dogs at both the Wood County and Toledo Area Humane Societies! We even took some time to meet some rescue animals from "Animal
House Rescue". As Dylan said "It is so hard to leave all the cats!" Team 14 couldn't agree more, these were rewarding
visits for all!
4. Northwest Ohio Elected Officials
EPIC & The Elected at The Toledo Club, 5/18/09, Presented by The EPIC Public Affairs Committee- look for more great
events on the EPIC website!
Connecting Generations Through Art: Community Art Project at Swan Creek Retirement Village on June 3, 2009!
This project was Team 14's way of sharing our love of art with others.
Helping those in need always feels good and the staff and volunteers at The Cherry Street Mission make a difference every
day in the lives of those less fortunate! The Cherry Street Mission serves over 700 meals a day to the homeless of our
area! And not just that- they have programs set up to get back a fulfilling life.
Visiting the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank is an eye-opening experience! They collect and distribute food
to many agencies around the Northwest Ohio area, that then get it to the people in need! Volunteers and a minimal staff keep
this place in motion, so when you have extra food and toiletries- these folks will get it to the right place.
8. Recycling Stations: Bowling Green Recycling Station & Toledo Area Krogers
For more information on what, how, where to recycle in Wood County: www.bgrecycling.com
When you dont have recycling curb pick-up, there are many local Recycling Stations! The Bowling Green Recycling Center
has quite an operation and we went on a day we could see it all in progress! Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!
9. EPIC Toledo, membership based on attitude, not age!
Promoting EPIC is easy- everyone wants to know about the professional organization making a difference in Northwest Ohio!
To join or get involved with any of our many action teams, check out the EPIC website!
The Boys and Girls Club has been around for 117 years! We visited the South Boys and Girls Club and checked out the new
location! Well, Rose says new because as a young boys and girls club member they had a different building! Loving
the progress in the last 20 years!
11. Mass Transit: Taxis & Tarta
Another way to go green- carpool with taxis or use Tarta! Thanks Phil for our taxi ride! Phil is new to the industry-
only 6 months and doing a great job! Thanks to the Greater Toledo & Visitors Bureau for Taxis Gone Wild!

comment: I serve Toledo by volunteering for an organization
called Gliding Stars of Greater Toledo. I'm a group instructor & teach special needs & disabled children and
adults how to figure skate using adaptive skating equipment. The program runs from Sept-March ending with a huge ice
show! Over 100 volunteers show up weekly at Tam-O-Shanter in Sylvania to skate with the 35 stars in the program- there
are so many wonderful people there & the stars make it all worth it! An amazing organization!! Starts again
in mid-September if you are interested download the volunteer registration form. http://www.glidingstars.org/toledo.html
